A PhD student position is available with the Chair of Policy & Sustainability, a new research group led by Professor Michaël Aklin and located in the College of Management at EPFL (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne, Switzerland). The starting date is September 15, 2023.
The ideal candidates will have a master’s degree in a social science with a strong quantitative component (e.g., economics, political science, computational social science, etc.) or in a related field (including interdisciplinary programs). Candidates will be interested in doing research related to technology, environment, energy, and/or development. This can be from a wide range of perspectives: applied microeconomics, computational social science, political economy, public economics, public policy, etc. For more information regarding past and ongoing projects, see https://michaelaklin.github.io.
This is a fully funded position (salary scale available here: https://www.epfl.ch/education/phd/doctoral-studies-structure/doctoral-students-salary/). The PhD program typically lasts four years, including coursework. PhD students have access to considerable resources for research. They can also capitalize on EPFL’s expertise in areas such as energy, environmental science, and computational methods. EPFL is also a co-host of E4S, an institution that facilitates opportunities to conduct applied research in partnership with civil society and industry.
